Project Overview
Summary
The NC Department of the Secretary of State (NCSOS) is charged with promoting economic growth and protecting the public from financial harm. NCSOS has a wide range of administrative data related to North Carolina’s charity system, corporations system, trademarks, uniform commercial code system, and tax liens system (see example data dictionaries below).
NCSOS was seeking help identifying (and ultimately implementing) research projects with its administrative data that can inform how NCSOS pursues its mission. Preliminary meetings with researchers were an opportunity to analyze available data and jointly brainstorm what priority questions might be answered with those data.
Examples of available administrative data included:
- NC Charity System
- NC Corporations System
- NC Tax Liens System
- NC Trademarks System
- NC Uniform Commercial Code System
The NC Department of the Secretary of State (NCSOS) and the NC Office of Strategic Partnerships (OSP) hosted a research partnership meeting on June 30, 2022, to discuss this project. Click here for the meeting recording and here for NCSOS's presentation.
Deliverables
- OSP encouraged NCSOS to refine their research questions, which lead to more specific research questions developed by the department. This generalized question served its purpose by introducing the broad topic of NCSOS data availability.
